The Prevalence of Chiari II Malformation in Neonates with Myelomeningocele at Ayub Teaching Hospital, KPK

Objective: Neural tube defects (NTDs) are common in northern areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and need a lot community education for the parents regarding this disease, which impaired patients their whole life. The study aimed to assess contribution family history myelomeningocele resulting incidence Chiari II malformation.
 Materials Methods: A total 131 were observed determine frequency malformation with who presented Ayub Teaching Hospital, Abbottabad. All neonates sent radiology department MRI. repair procedure meningomyelocele was done.
 Results: mean age 16.56 days. In 53.4% neonates, there familial spinal dysraphism, while 46.6% no history. present 23.7% myelomeningocele. significant difference (p-value < 0.00001) existed between presence/absence out total.
 Conclusion: Early surgery, along multidisciplinary approach, provides best opportunity improved results survival.
